Driving Your Career (Virtual Panel)
Featuring: Julie Derence of TBD Robotics LLC, Apoorva Sachdev Lakshmanan of Waymo, and Jessie Smith of Aurora. Moderated by Faryl Ury of Aurora.
When we are little, we’re often asked: What do you want to be when you grow up? But as we continue on through our careers, it’s rare that we take a minute to ask: Where am I now and where do I want to go? How do I decide what I want when it comes to my career and then ask for it? While companies and managers can help greatly as you navigate your career, ultimately you’re in the driver’s seat. In this session, we’ll bring together leaders in technical and business roles at leading self-driving companies to discuss taking charge of your career for the short- and long-term.
Autonomy's Role in Equitable Mobility (Virtual Panel)
Featuring Dr. Shani Jayant of Volkswagen, Erin McCurry of May Mobility, and Myrna Peterson, Founder of Mobility Mania. Moderated by Tammy Meehan Russell of The PLUM Catalyst.
From an equity perspective, transportation contributes to many broad societal outcomes, such as employment, wealth, and health. Unfortunately, many underserved and underrepresented communities do not benefit from our current transportation systems, including: low-income communities, communities of color, rural and indigenous communities, as well as people with disabilities, women, youth, and those with limited car access. While autonomous vehicles show promise in removing mobility barriers for many of these underrepresented communities, there is much work to be done to address specific challenges. This session will discuss how we can address the topic of transportation equity, the state of accessible mobility, the challenges and opportunities in deploying equitable transportation solutions, novel deployments, and the actionable road ahead.

The economic drivers pushing autonomous trucking are clear, with severe driver shortages and the need for improved asset utilization topping the list. Add to that the accelerated demand for delivery and logistics spurred by COVID-19. While the business models and path forward for trucking appears to have fewer obstacles than for cars - technological, logistical and infrastructure challenges remain. This session brings together key players from the ecosystem to discuss the state of autonomous fleets, the hurdles the industry needs to overcome, and how rollouts may take shape.

Eliminating Hidden Bias in Autonomy and Beyond
A Presentation by Deepti Mahajan of Ford Greenfield Lab
In Conjunction with NVIDIA GTC Digital
We tend to trust that the systems that govern our day-to-day life—standards followed by industry, regulations passed by governments—are based on thorough research. However, in many cases, the data used to design these systems fails to represent us all equally and can even reinforce or amplify existing biases. As designers and engineers of the next generation of mobility, how can we learn to recognize hidden bias in the data we utilize and information we take for granted, and thus work towards creating systems that serve everyone?
